For being a new writer, Mr Quarles, you sure are good! This series is delightful, fun and darned good entertainment.This is the last of a series and a great story about travelling to Mars, discovering new life, a couple apocalypses, saving mankind, and cosmic mysteries like life, death, time and wormholes.
I find a book keeps my attention if the characters are likeable and have depth. I like a book that has (mostly) believable science in it. I like a story that rolls along, gathering speed and determination. I find stories that create a realistic and honest drama to be appealing, versus the made up drama of people just being stupid or evil to one another. I like complex stories that weave together into a whole, rather than a number of loose ends and a small ending. This series has all of these things. It is a many layered tale that is easy to read and sometimes hard to put down.
There are a handful of typos but a new writer self-publishing gets a pass from me. This was actually my 2nd read of this series and I enjoyed it as much as the 1st time.

In the first book of the series the AI brothers Romulus and Remus were sent into a mysterious fugue state when trying to decode a signal coming from Mars. And in the second book the AI Braun suffered the same fate. Also in the second book a mysterious Pulse occurred which killed billions on Earth including all the AIs and caused some havoc on Mars.
So is there a connection between these two things. Was the Pulse responsible for killing the native Martians millennia ago? Will there be more Pulses?
This third book of the series answers all these question. There are good action scenes and some interesting revelations that make for an interesting read. My only problem with it is that there was a bit too much meta-physics for my taste.
The third and final volume continues the faster pace and complexity of the second. I enjoyed reading the trilogy and thought that the pieces all came together pretty well in the end. I had to re-read several sections to make sure I was following what the author was trying to do. All three books held my interest to the end, and I look forward to future works by Mr. Quarles.
As I got deeper into this series, I was reminded more and more of Arthur C Clarke and the 2001 series. A computer evolving into something else, alien beings affecting a celestial body and many other similarities. This author definitely borrowed a lot from Clarke and his series, mixed in a little religious philosophy and tried to make it his own. He succeeded in developing an interesting story with some complex characters.
I wished the editor would have spent more effort though. The editing was horrible. I'm not an English professor, but the grammatical errors are numerous. Some of the technical details also are laughable; an electric motorcycle revving its engine?
Even though this series has its faults, I was definitely invested in it. I found myself reading every available minute, blasting through the trilogy in about a week.

Well, I've finished reading the third book of Dylan Quarles' trilogy "The Ruins of Mars." My problem now is that is that - I've finished the third book in the of the trilogy. It's over; there is no more.
Dylan Quarles is a WONDERFUL writer, and I certanly hope that that he writes another book; I would buy it in a heartbeat! Dylan's writing style is so very readable, something missing from so many books. And, his writing is so descriptive; the words enter your mind and you see the scene as if you were watching a movie. Add all that to the fact that this is a top-notch story about the planet Mars and you have a winning combination. This last book in the trilogy built on the excellent and vivid characterizations and the events described in the first two books, adding even more twists and turns that kept me wondering what would happen next. At times I thought I had an idea of what would happen next, even how the book would end, but I was wrong every time - Dylan continued to surprise me. Pleasantly surprised, to be sure. I feel almost as if I know the charactgers in the book. Dylan has quite an amazing and inventive imagination; now I have to start reading one of the other ebooks I've bought from . "The Ruins of Mars" is going to be a hard act to follow.
I judge a book partly by "Would I want to read it again?" With some books the answer is a resounding "No!" But "The Runis of Mars" is a series of books I will keep in my collection and definitely ready again. Thank you, Dylan, for a truly wonderful and exciting trip to Mars!

Loved it, a total page turner. Plot twists and surprises right up to the end. It does a great job of weaving the alien backstory solidly into the action, and only at the end revealing the true big picture.
The only thing I found hard to digest was his vision of AI. I found it, plus some of the technical details of his universe, a bit of a stretch. All told, I thought he could have done a bit better job of world-building there. I also thought that a few of the plot threads were unnecessary, though the reader can judge that on their own. Having said all that, none of these took away from the intensity of the story. Like most SF, it's best to simply suspend disbelief, hop aboard the interplanetary flyer and enjoy the story.
I found it to be one hell of a ride. I hope you enjoy as much as I did, the wonderful three-volume roller coaster winding through the ruins of Mars.
