This book tells the story of one day in the life of a box turtle as he searches for food and interacts with other animals (one of which tries to eat him.) It is a naturalistic story, not anthropomorphized, and the carefully crafted text draws the reader into the animals moment-by-moment experience, and Lindsay George's beautiful realistic illustrations capture the turtle's movements and personality well.

The best way to observe a turtle is sitting or lying quietly outdoors, watching it in person. But this book isn't a bad runner-up to that ideal.
Fantastic book, beautiful pictures. My grandson loves it and asks us to read it to him many times each day and he loves looking at the pictures.
What a splendid book! The illustrations are just beautiful and the story is wonderful. Very engaging for my young ones and also fun for me.

It covers a day in the life of a box turtle with clear, simple, accurate prose and beautiful, detailed pictures that put you right into the world of the turtle. No anthropomorphism but gentle awareness. I bought several of these for use in turtle classes at our local nature center.
