Survivor Belle Book 3 edition by Lesley Pearse Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I wanted to stop reading after the first couple of chapters due to the constant past tense and clunky dialogue. But the story was just so compelling and Mari such a likeable protagonist that I persisted. My big gripe (apart from the writing) is that she stays with a guy who virtually date raped her earlier. It seems like the author excuses his bad behaviour and that's pretty disturbing.
Lesley Pearse always writes an easy read book and this one followed on from Bella so was great to see what happened from that great book. Interesting history included in book and research done well as usual. Recommend as a easy light book to pick up at night or with a wine on a lazy day or in the sun at the beach. )
I love reading her books - easy reading, and enjoyable. This book I found very interesting as it gave me so much insight as to how life really was, at the time of the second world war, and how difficult life was for civilians at home , being subjected to bombings and rations etc. I thoroughly enjoyed how the characters developed with their various experiences.
Yet another good read from Lesley Pearce . It was the 3rd book in the series from belle . I just wish authors would write 1st 2nd and third book so you know which to read first otherwise you can end up reading book 2 first and so on out of sequence so it is very frustrating . I think belle was first the promise then survivor . All great reads loved them and couldn't put them down . I have read over 15 books of hers thanks so much for getting me into reading Lesley
Another great story from Lesley Pearse. I enjoyed this book very much, perhaps not quite as much as the two previous ones in the Belle series but nevertheless it was good. Mari is truly a survivor considering her adventures once she leaves New Zealand. Well written and lots of historial World War II details given. Thankyou for an enjoyable storyline.
So excited to start reading this book, but I must admit I felt this book had a different style then what I normally expect from Lesley Pearse.

I found the first half of the book didn't get as involved in the detail as I would of loved. It seemed to skim over a few bits where I would normally expect more detail from this author.

In saying that I loved the second half of the book where I felt Lesley Pearse was back, although I must admit a little sad (

The last 70% I just loved and couldn't put the book down. All and all I still really enjoyed the read. However certainly not my favourite book by Lesley and Belle and The Promise are miles ahead for me.. However still a must read.
On paper (so to speak) Survivor by Lesley Pearse should be a brilliant book character development, tragedy, war, action, love (and lust) are all present.

Unfortunately Survivor acts as a brilliant example of good content executed poorly. I always hate to use snobbish authorly criticisms, but Survivor could be held up in a writing class to demonstrate the problems of telling not showing. I don't think a single concept in this novel was shown in action - everything was explained either in dialogue or through insight into the characters heads. Aside from some nipple hardening and tears flowing, all the emotions, character traits, and philosophizing were portrayed through direct commentary - not funky or enjoyable prose either, just matter-of-fact descriptions of events, when analogies were used they should out as rather abrupt appearances to prove this was in fact a work of creative writing.

Aside from all that negatively I must stress that Survivor is actually a good story - as I read it I felt like it would make a brilliant film or mini series (I may have just been wanting to see actors perform to make up for the flaws in the prose) the difficulty remains in trying to determine whether this book is recommended or not - as the piece is longish, it isn't worth trudging through the whole thing if it isn't working out. I guess my recommendation is to make use of 's 'Look inside' feature if available (or steal a look at a few pages at the book store) if you can't handle the writing execution, DO NOT press on hoping it warms up.

If the first few pages are acceptable to you then definitely read ahead as the pace will pick up!
