Fran has an old vampire boyfriend (pun intended) whom she hasn't seen in five years. She met him at a goth fair in Europe when she was only seventeen and he wished to set up permanent house with her right away. Not being crazy, Fran said no and she returned to the States, graduated from college and became a computer programmer. Now her Wicca mother in Europe has disappeared and Fran must return there to find her. Now Fran is a goddess and the Norse goddess Frigga asks her to do something for her in Europe and she sends some dead Vikings from Valhalla to help. (I am not making this up!). The Vikings are hilarious as they try to help her by giving romance advice when she meets up with the vampire boyfriend again and as she searches for her mother. This story is funny in places, slow moving sometimes, and a so-so romance.

Love this series. Fran and Ben are my favorite couple. Ive recommended them to others.
I kinda hated Katie Macalister for the ending of this book, since I was full of questions, but I must say I adore Fran and Ben. I completely recommend reading first "Confessions of a Vampire's Girlfriend" before starting this book, so the reader knows the characters better, and can find out how Ben and Fran met.

Other characters from other Dark One novels appear or are mentioned in this book, like Ulfur, Pia and Kristoff.

I find Fran's adventures in this book very fun and entertaining. I love the crazy Vikings which do a come back in this book. Another thing I was happy to read is Ben and Fran's Joining (at last!)

Totally recommend this book to any Macalister fan
Although it was good to catch up with Fran and Benedikt, I thought the story was a bit over the top in silliness. Also, it didn't really have much of a finite ending. I know there a quite a few books in the "Dark Ones" series, maybe there is something out there that wraps up the loose ends of this one.
It was a good read. I've read better from her. Its not a book I wouldn't re-read just not one I would choose especially when there's other options from her.
Katie MacAlister never fails to write zany stories that are interconnected to other stories. She always makes me laugh & smile! I would recommend all of her books to anyone looking for fun paranormal romance!

I knew going in that I was taking a chance, as the main characters started out in a book for young adults. KM should have kept it there. one main irritant? *sigh* Fran not swearing. Using silly phrases to make up for not swearing. KM please rent Kathleen Madigan, Gone Madigan (stand up comedian), and you will know why most of us ADULTS find that very annoying. Either swear, or don't.

And Fran stating she lost her virginity with "toys"?!?!?! C'Mon!

Boring, boring, boring. And I found the character Fran is completely interchangeable with Pia (previous Dark Ones book main character). KM seems to have made no effort to write an interesting book for us readers.....I have no idea why this book was published besides possibly trying to conform to readers request......never conform KM, never conform.
I loved the first few books in the Dark Ones series, but the past few have fallen flat for me. I found the relationship between Fran and Ben lacking chemistry, especially since they are the first couple in the series with a romantic history. The viking humor felt childish and the plot was thin, at best. To be fair, I did not read the young adult novel that introduced these two characters, and that may have made a difference in my opinion of this one. Not a good addition to the series in my opinion.
